Back to School: New Backpacks, Fresh Starts, and Real Support

The back-to-school shopping list for a child with special needs looks different. Beyond the pencils and notebooks, families need weighted vests for sensory regulation, noise-canceling headphones for overstimulated nervous systems, specialized grip aids for fine motor challenges, and visual schedule cards for children who process information differently.

These aren't luxuries—they're the tools that make learning accessible. And they're expensive.

This August, The Tee Shop is partnering with local therapists to create "Back to School Success Kits" for children with special needs. Each kit is customized based on the child's specific requirements and includes items recommended by their occupational therapists, speech therapists, or special education teachers.

Ten families will receive these kits, fully funded by our summer T-shirt sales. That's ten children starting the school year with exactly what they need to focus, communicate, and succeed.

As parents everywhere are posting first-day-of-school photos, we're making sure every child—regardless of ability or family income—gets to start the year feeling prepared, supported, and ready to learn. Because every child deserves a fresh start, and the right tools to make it count.
