Why We Share: The Design That Almost Didn't Happen

Not every design makes it to print. We sketch dozens of concepts, play with countless slogans, and debate whether an idea will truly resonate. But sometimes, the designs we're most uncertain about become the most meaningful.

"I Am My Ancestors' Hope" almost didn't happen. We worried it was too serious, too heavy, too personal. Would people wear it? Would they understand it?

Then we received an email from a grandmother who had seen a rough mockup on our Instagram story. She wrote about her own grandmother, who couldn't read or write but worked three jobs so her children could go to school. About her mother, who was the first in their family to attend college. About her daughter, who became a doctor. And about her grandson with Down syndrome, who she's raising with the same determination and hope that's been passed down through generations.

"He is the hope my ancestors held," she wrote. "Please make this shirt."

We did. And it's become one of our most requested designs—worn by families of all backgrounds who understand that we're all part of a continuum, carrying forward the dreams and sacrifices of those who came before us.
